Confessions Blog is Closed
This is the last Confessions Blog post I’ll be making.
The blog has been running for nearly two and a half years – the first post was on 1st February, 2009.
I began with the intention of documenting my activities as I tried to create a career in social media. I built up a number of clients and had steady-ish work.
But the scene has changed a lot in those two and a half years and I’ve been trying to figure out how to change, too.
The changes that have I have noticed are as follows:
- Social media is becoming commonplace (that’s good), but companies/organisations are now designating staff members to run their communities – often with success
- Any 14+ year old able to run a Facebook/YouTube site – and reasonably well run a community – without knowing they are doing it
- There is no mystique surrounding the technical operation of these platforms, since many people use them socially
- The importance of content (Remember: Content is King!) is generally overlooked – and my expertise is in creating content
- I am personally switching off to the privately social-networked life – professionally, I am all for it, however
- Crucially, my interests are leading me to focus on the content – particularly video content (see my revamped site: Rufus Runs Fast)
So, with these changes in the landscape, the skills of the companies and organisations which inhabit that landscape and the change in direction of my personal interests, this blog is outdated.
It’s been fun writing but I’m losing interest as I invest more time and effort in the video world.
I will continue with my social media activities, my podcasting and training work, I’ll still be reading Mashable and listening to Guardian Media’s Tech Weekly podcast, but I won’t be writing about it any more.
Check out the content on my Rufus Runs Fast blog. It’s all about video.
That’s one giant direction the WWW is going to be taking next, and I intend being there in the middle of it.
