First music video shot on Canon 5D mkII DSLR
Here it is – the first client video shot using my Canon 5D mkII DSLR – a music video for a ceilidh band called Danse McCabre.
It’s a bit of fun. Danse McCabre is an all girl band, possibly the only one in the NE of Scotland, and they hired me to make a music video which would help drive sales, ie. they want more gigs.
So, I wrote out a couple of story lines for them, suggesting they should do something surprising – rather than the run of the mill, slo-mo dancers, scenes of heather and so on. Hence this story: the name Danse McCabre has associations with horror, possibly gore – both of which are part of the Heavy Metal genre. And so I made this fun little vignette suggesting the band were hard rockers, when really they are a bunch of jolly nice ‘girls’!
We had discussions about how far we could go with the metal iconography, and one of the band members was uneasy with any associations with devil worship (I had to drop my idea of Anne the keyboard player chewing a bat’s head off), but I think we got a nice balance.
Stick with the video to the end for our pay off gag. It’s fun!!!
I should point out that the video was a joint production between myself and the other members of a loose collective of filmmakers in Aberdeen, called We Dig Video. (The site is curently under development, but it’ll be back online very shortly.)
